LECTURE: Modern Art's Beginnings: Sparking the Art Movement in New York
with Anisha Kall
Wednesday, March 25 from 6:30pm to 8pm
Join us as we explore some events and legends of the 20th Century that shaped people intellectually, artistically, philosophically, and spiritually. We will observe together some of the early movements of Modern Art in Europe (Impressionism and Cubism) and wind around to New York City, where the shattering of norms and defiant works by the Abstract Expressionists both horrified and delighted the art community and the eyes of America. Works by artists such as: Paul Cezanne, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasnwer, Willem De Kooning, Elaine DeKooning, Franz Kline, Helen Frankenthaler, Arshile Gorky, Mark Rothko, and, it time allows, more.
Explore areas across art history and the visual culture that developed around this history by examining specialized topics.
